Три начина, по които етеричното масло достига до тялото - и кога кой да приложиш?

Three ways essential oil reaches the body - and when to apply which one?

We have already clarified why aromatherapy works on two different levels – through smell and through the skin. The practical question remains: how exactly is an essential oil applied, and why is the choice of method not random? There are three main ways, and each of them has its specific purpose.

Diffusion and Inhalation – for the psyche and the air

Diffusion is the most direct path to the limbic system. Aromatic molecules disperse into the air and reach the olfactory receptors, from where the signal travels directly to the part of the brain responsible for emotions and memory. Therefore, this method works fastest on mood, sleep, and the sense of calm.

It makes sense when the goal is emotional support, lighter sleep, air purification in the room, or relief from respiratory discomfort. A few drops in an ultrasonic diffuser for 15-20 minutes are sufficient – essential oils are never heated above 40°C, so an open flame or heater is not suitable.

Topical Use – for a specific physical problem

For topical use, the oil, diluted in a carrier oil, is applied directly to the skin – on a specific area that needs attention. From there, the active ingredients pass through the skin and enter the bloodstream, where they act as anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antibacterial, etc., depending on the chemical profile of the oil.

It makes sense for a specific, localized problem – muscle tension, skin irritation, an area that needs healing. Dilution here is not a compromise but a way for the effect to be more lasting and controlled, rather than a one-time and fleeting one.

Cosmetic Form – for constant, low-dose care

The third way is different in nature – the oil is not applied on its own but is incorporated into a ready-made cosmetic formula, in a precisely defined and safe percentage. The effect here is not instantaneous but cumulative – regular use of a serum, cream, or lotion with essential oil over time.

It makes sense when the goal is long-term skin care, not a one-time intervention – an anti-aging routine, maintaining barrier function, daily use that does not require separate dilution every time.

The choice of method is not random

The same oil can participate in all three ways, but with different logic behind each. Lavender, for example, can be wonderfully diffused in the evening before sleep, diluted in a carrier oil for direct application for tension, or incorporated into a night face cream – all three applications are correct, as long as they meet the specific need at the moment.

Therefore, the first question is not "which oil," but "for what exactly." Are you looking for a quick effect on mood or sleep – diffuse. Do you have a specific spot on your body that needs attention – apply topically, diluted. Do you want a result that accumulates over time, without thinking about dosage every day – choose a product in which the oil is already incorporated in the correct concentration.

That is why in every Bether product, the concentration and form are considered according to the specific purpose, not applied by default. The choice of method follows the goal – not the other way around.
